When we get up in the morning to head to work we have great intentions to provide for ourselves and our families. Many of us have spent countless hours doing so. I averaged 60-70 hours per week not including travel time. That's 41% of my week spent working!  If you are like me as I climbed the corporate ladder my bank account increased but the time I had with my family and friends disappeared. 

After years of enduring the late nights and early morning, I received a phone while at work about one of my children involving the police that showed me it was time for a change. They were lucky the police didn't arrest them but a light finally went off that I needed to change to be more present for my family.

To me, my wife and children had everything they needed but I never considered myself as part of that equation. So I took a leave of absence and during that month I decided to walk away from a high-earning job to figure out how to build a home inspection business. 

I wasn't handy in any way and construction was not my background, but I saw an opportunity to learn a high-paying skill that had a low barrier of entry so I went for it.

I don't encourage anyone else to just quit their jobs and start a business but I do want to encourage you to look at the life you are living and assess if it's the life you want to live.
